Montana Freshwater Partners (MFP), in collaboration with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), is preparing a stream and wetland restoration project along Jocko Spring Creek near Arlee, Montana. The 27.22-acre site was historically part of a larger ranch that experienced nearly a century of intensive livestock grazing. This long-term use significantly degraded the stream and surrounding riparian habitat, causing the stream channel to become overly wide and incised, and leading to the loss of healthy vegetation along the banks.

In 2009, the CSKT Fisheries Program acquired the property and has been managing and protecting it for its natural resource and conservation values.

In December of 2025, MFP implemented restoration efforts aimed at reconnecting Jocko Spring Creek to its historic floodplain and restoring wetland and riparian habitats. Constructed project elements focused on raising the water level in the stream and spreading it across the floodplain to help re-establish natural wetland hydrology and native vegetation. Ultimately, this project will create a diverse mosaic of wetland habitats that support a wide range of native plant and animal species.
